Bespoke packages can be discussed with the Cathedral. The Cathedral reserves the right to upgrade your booking to a larger room for the same fee and to hire the other spaces separately or use them for their own purposes unless not appropriate due to safeguarding reasons. Only hire of the entire Undercroft guarantees exclusive use of all the spaces including the toilets. Please see the terms and conditions for more information.
The Large room can hold up to 95 seated depending on the layout chosen and the nature of your event. Its 2 metre social distancing capacity is 26 and 1 metre is 60, so do consider this when booking.
The seminar room holds around 25-40 depending on the setup arrangements.
The breakout room can hold about 8-15, depending on how you plan to use it. Please note that it is in between the other two rooms and users have to go through it to get from the Large room to the Seminar room. Watch our tour above under "Spaces" to see round the space.
We can arrange the layout of the rooms to meet your requirements. Just discuss this with us when you book. Some example layouts are below to give you some ideas. Please note that complex or unusual setups maybe subject to an additional charge.

The Undercroft is situated on the South Cloister of the Cathedral complex. You will be able to access the Undercroft from College Green on the South Side of the Cathedral.
Depending on the nature and timing of your booking your guests may be required to enter through the Cathedral or from College Green. We will discuss this with you at the time of booking.
However, we normally request that guests arrive through the Cathedral if it is open to the public at that time, and from College Green if the Cathedral is not open to the public or a service is taking place.
The Undercroft can be accessed via a lift and level flooring from the street. The Undercroft is completely level throughout. There is uneven flooring in the Cloister through which the Undercroft is accessed.
The Undercroft has a hearing loop installed. It is a quiet space away from the busyness of the Cathedral and the rest of the world so ideal for those looking for such a setting.
We will have at least one flatscreen available for use at no extra charge (other than deposit or if damage occurs). You will be able to connect to this with your laptop or tablet for presentations or bring a USB drive.
We will also have a simple PA system with two handheld microphones.
We have Wi-Fi available for Hirers. Please check when booking if you are interested in this option.
We cannot guarantee tech support beyond the most basic setup and play, so please consider this in your plans. Do ask questions when you book.
The Cathedral takes safeguarding very seriously. All Hirers are required to read and abide by the Cathedral safeguarding policy. The Hirer is required to ensure that children and vulnerable adults are protected at all times, by taking all reasonable steps to prevent injury, loss or damage occurring and ensuring all necessary checks are undertaken. The Cathedral accepts no responsibility for the Hirer’s failure to comply with these requirements. The Cathedral Safeguarding officer should be informed of any safeguarding concerns that occur during the hire.
Individuals may bring their own food and drink to be consumed on site, although there is no facility for heating food.
The Cloister Café is just a few yards from the Undercroft and hirers can have a discount if agreed at time of booking. Significant planned orders from the Café should be arranged ahead of time through your Undercroft booking contact, although this does not need to be arranged at the time of booking.
The Cathedral reserves the right to cater any event at the Undercroft and can provide this through Cathedral enterprises. Please discuss this when making the booking.
While the Hirer may pass on any charges for Cathedral food to your guests, they are not permitted to sell any food produced by any other organisation or individuals to attendees at an event.
Alcohol – any plan to sell, consume or use alcohol must be agreed with the Catering manager as this may have an impact on the licence the Cathedral holds.
The terms and conditions of hire can be viewed here. These provide more information.
We also have a risk assessment that can be used as a guideline for creating your own for a hire.
