Worcester Festival Events at the Cathedral | Summer 2023

The Cathedral will be joining the Worcester Festival fun this year, with the following events happening during the festival fortnight, Saturday 12 - Monday 28 August.

ART IN SACRED SPACES Exhibition
Tuesday 1–Wednesday 30 August, 10am–5pm Monday–Saturday & 1–3pm Sunday

Summer Craft & Gift Fayre in the Cloister
Saturday 12 August, 10am-4pm
Browse over 20 quality craft and gift stalls set in the beautiful medieval cloisters.

The Buzz

Monday 14th August

Free – donations welcome.

At this family friendly event we will be learning about the amazing insect, the bee. Join us to find out what you can do to help them thrive in our gardens and have a go at creating bee bombs, bee baths and other bee related activities.

Come and join us for a family friendly drop in arts/crafts workshop (for all ages), inspired by  Michelangelo’s  ‘The Creation of Adam’.  We will use collage and other art materials to create our very own masterpieces good enough for the Sistine Chapel, Rome!

The History of Fashion – An illustrated talk

In this family friendly drop in workshop (for all ages) we will be making art that is bright, colourful and fun. Based on the work of famous Pop Artists Andy Warhol and Roy Litchenstein, lets have a go at creating our very own big, bold and beautiful artworks using images from the cathedral.

The Feast

This family friendly drop-in workshop (for all ages) is based on Leonardo da Vinci’s painting ‘The Last Supper’. If you were hosting a last supper, who would you invite? What food would you eat and why? Join us to create a large collective artwork of food and guests from your imaginary supper.

Make an Impressionism

Wednesday 23rd August

Why not come and spend some time with us at this family friendly drop-in workshop (for all ages) where we will make art based on the work of Claude Monet & Vincent Van Gogh. Have a go at making your own version of ‘Starry Night’ and recreate ‘Waterlillies’.

£18 (1-2 adults and up to 4 children) or £7 per person. Pay on arrival. Spaces limited.

Wilfred the Monk will take you on a journey through the history of the Cathedral with family friendly stories and activities as you journey around.

Worcester Cathedral’s Medieval Library has over 2000 books, manuscripts and artifacts some over 1000 years old. Our Librarian and archivist will reveal some of it’s hidden treasures.

Please note the Library is only accessible via a steep windy staircase.

Christ in Majesty

Saturday 12th August – Monday 28th August (not Sunday’s)

Worcester Cathedral College Hall

Free

Christ in Majesty is a 13th Century scuplture that is rarely seen and about which so much is not understood. Filling nearly an entire wall of College Hall this sculpture was destroyed during the reformation but has recently been conserved. Come and take this rare opportunity to view it and find out more.
